Industrial-Organizational Psychology

Industrial-Organizational (IO) Psychology applies knowledge in IO psychology; findings from social, organizational, and cognitive science; and data-driven research methods to investigate and address individual and group behavior in work settings.

Graduates develop a unique blend of competencies – behavioral knowledge, analytic skills, and research abilities – recommended by the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, that are needed to investigate, intervene, and guide decisions in organizational settings.

An advanced Master of Science degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology (MSIO) prepares graduates for applied career paths in human resource settings such as recruiting, selection, on-boarding, training, performance appraisal, job analysis, organizational development, and data analytics; consumer psychology and market research; worker safety, health, and well-being; and human factors and user-experience (UX) research.

Graduate students are invited to conduct research on topics of interest throughout their programs by completing optional independent study, practicum, or thesis research projects, or by working with faculty on research. Professional experience is gained via internships and applied capstone consulting projects.

Most graduates (90%) obtain positions within three months of completion; 5% apply their degrees to current roles; and 5% pursue doctoral degrees.

The University’s suburban campus, located five miles from downtown Cincinnati (pictured above) provides access to diverse organizations and opportunities to gain applied experience through internships, employment, and consulting projects.

To accommodate working professionals and students who pursue internship or job opportunites, classes are offered on weekday evenings (M, T, W). To allow for changing individual needs and circumstances, the program may be completed on a full-time (two years) or part-time basis.
